None of the 12 detained defendants of the MKLP trial were released at the hearing on 13 October. The trial with a total of 24 defendants has been pending for six years. The defence lawyers pointed to contradictions and called the case a "complot".

The Press Council decided for a reprimand for the Yeni Şafak newspaper because of a violation of professional principles. The warning is based on a picture of BDP deputies below the headline "You are the murderers".

Academic Çakmak stands trial on charges of "propaganda for an illegal organization" because he demanded the release of meanwhile deceased political prisoner Güler Zere. The indictment does not specify which organization the charges are based on.

Writer Erdoğan Akhanlı was acquitted from charges of "the attemp to change the constitutional order by force" on 12 October because of lack of evidence. He was facing a life sentence in the context of the murder of an exchange office owner 22 years ago.

14-year-old Ö.S. was released pending trial after 14.5 months in detention. His indictment was prepared after 13 months. Ö.S. stood accused of "membership of a terrorist organization". At the third hearing he was sentenced to imprisonment of almost five years.

The latest book of journalist Saymaz deals with the killing of Priest Santoro. Protestant priest Persson was apparently threatened before Santoro's death. The book suggests a connection between Persson and the "Trabzon Police-Malatya Zirve Publishing House".

Raziye Kızıl (Gazin), faces two trials because of Kurdish folk songs. The Kurdish lyrics in the police records were supposedly translated incorrectly. The court did not accept the related objection and sentenced her to one year in jail. The second trial carries a five-year prison threat.

The "Great Gemlik March" planned for 7October in Bursa had to be cancelled. Almost 20,000 protestors were going to demonstrate against the isolation of imprisoned PKK leader Öcalan. The police stopped protestors in several provinces from travelling to Bursa.

Journalists and women organisations were outraged about the Friday front page of the Habertürk daily that showed a drastic picture of a woman killed by her husband. The Press Council launched official procedures.

Politician Hatip Dicle is facing imprisonment of up to ten years because of the contents of his book and a speech he made at the Democratic Society Congress. Detained Dicle was elected as Deputy of Diyarbakır in June but deprived from his right to deputyship.

7748 people were taken into custody and 3895 persons were arrested in the scope of KCK operations during the past six months, the Peace and Democracy Party announced. Dozens of BDP executives and employees are still in prison.

Students Ferhat Tüzer and Berna Yılmaz were released pending trial on 6 October. They stand accused of "membership of an illegal organization" and "propaganda" . They are on trial on the grounds of a banner they had posted to demand free education.

The five defendants tried for having supported conscientious objector Enver Aydemir appeared before the court at their third hearing in Eskişehir on 6 October. Lawyer Doğanoğlu reiterated his request to call a gynaecologist for an expert opinion.

Members of the Genç-Sen Students Youth Union protested against the closure decision of their union in Istanbul on 5 October. The union announced to bring their legal struggle as far as the European Court of Human Rights if necessary.

The Platform for Solidarity with Arrested Journalists denounced the custodies of Özgür Gündem editor Şeker and Azadiya Welat newspaper writer Temel and the arrest of DİHA reporter Yıldız. The platform regards the latest incidents as an attack on press freedom.

According to a study by the Contemporary Lawyers Association conducted in five prisons in north-western Turkey, 89 high school and university students are currently being detained in five prisons in the region.

According to the revised Civil Procedure Law, the cost for opening a trial at a civil court has to be paid in advance. Lawyer Tekay criticized, "Efforts to speed up judiciary processes should be done by increasing the budget instead of restricting the freedom to seek your right".

The book "Nurjuvazi" might be seized upon a criminal complaint filed by the Bank of Asia. The bank put forward that the book by Eren Erdem "incites the public to hatred and hostility" and "opposes the Anti-Terror Law".
