Men Killed 9 Women in April
According to data collected by bianet, 9 women and a child were killed by men in April; 17 women, 2 girls and a man injured; 10 women raped; 11 women harrassed. Most of the women murdered in April were killed by their husbands.

Penalty for Defending Murder with "Tradition"
The Diyarbakır Bar Association decided for a warning penalty for the lawyer who referred to 'honour' regarding the murder of Gülitan Gümüş and said "The killed woman was not innocent". Lawyer Kanar appreciated the decision although it came with delay.

Indicted Husband Claims "Loss of Memory"
Lawyer Eyüboğlu said after the second hearing of the trial related to Şefika Etik who was killed by her husband, "Today we witnessed the same woman story we see all the time. We believe that the court decides for a life sentence, but that won't bring Şefika back".

Prevention of Violence against Women Draft Approved in Parliament
The Turkish Parliament unanimously approved the "Draft Bill to Protect the Family and for the Prevention of Violence against Women" in their session on 8 March.

Preceding the international Women's Day on 8 March, the Huni Project launched the "We give ourselves black eyes to stop violence against women" campaign on facebook. The participating users' profile pictures will be exchanged by photographs with black eyes.

Court Decreed for Threat instead of Torture
The court handling the trial of Fevziye Cengiz who was exposed to violence at a police station in Izmir decided for lack of jurisdiction and sent the case to a Criminal Court of First Instance. Lawyer Yıldırım said the file should go to a high criminal court due to the torture allegations.

Men Killed 257 Women in 2011
In 2011, male culprits killed 257 women, 32 men, 14 children and two babies. At least 102 women and 59 girls were raped. 167 women were harassed; 220 women were wounded. In 2010, 217 women and three children were killed by men.

Men Killed 14 Women in December
According to data collected by bianet, 14 women in Turkey were killed by men in December 2011. 24 women were injured, 15 women raped and 16 harassed. In total, 259 women were killed by male culprits in Turkey in 2011.

26,000 Women Exposed to Violence in First Half of 2011
According to official numbers of the Provincial Police Directorates and prosecutor offices, about 26,000 women became victims of murder, injury, attacks or threats during the first six months of 2011.

Lecturer Başterzi from the Turkish Psychiatric Association urged the government, the media and universities to quickly develop an action plan for the prevention of violence against women and woman murders. She called for the elimination of gender discrimination.

217 Women Killed by Men in Turkey in 2010
Data compiled by bianet suggest that males of all age groups, professions and status from almost all over Turkey exposed women of all age groups, professions and status to various kinds of violence in 2010. As a result, 217 women and girls lost their lives.

MP Ersin: "State Responsible for Killing of Ayşe Paşalı"
The case against İstikbal Yetkin who allegedly killed his divorced wife Ayşe Paşalı, in spite of the victim's complaints to the police, started in Ankara. The hearing was observed by 40 women lawyers, representatives of women organizations and Ahmet Ersin from the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission.

N.Y. Asks for Justice in Rape Case But There is No Lawsuit
It has been revealed that no charges have been pressed against the 34 people, who are accused of raping 17-year-old N.Y. in Van. Among the 34 people, are the relatives of AKP Deputy Orhan. Justice Minister Ergin stated that an investigation was carried out about four of the suspects, but the file was closed due to lack of evidence.

Men Kill 23 Women in July
Men have killed at least 23 women in July. Six women have lost their lives suspiciously. Last month at least 20 women were injured, 18 women and children were raped, 27 people – 20 of whom were children – were victims of sexual abuse and exploitation.

"Those Leaving Women to the Hands of Murderers Should be Punished”
Turkey cannot protect women, who take shelter in the state. Women are dying. Coordinator Hacisalihoglu of the Hurriyet Campaign to End Domestic Violence is underlining the inadequacy of capacity in institutions. "Police officials, who take women from shelters and send them back to a violent environment, should be punished,” says Lawyer Arin.

Women Organizations Unable To Take Part In Italian Artist’s Murder Trial
Italian artist Pippa Bacca’s murder trial is postponed to January 20 to wait for the needed documents. The women’s organizations are still denied to take part in the trial on the grounds that they were not similarly injured by the crime committed against Bacca.
