The judgeship has carried out the monthly evaluation of the arrest of the journalists who were remanded in custody in June on "terrorism" charges.

Journalist Ömer Çelik noted that the temperature is above 40 Celsius degrees in Diyarbakır. Sixteen journalists were remanded in custody in mid-June.

The police reportedly seized computers, hard drives, cameras, microphones and other equipment.

The journalists have not been allowed to read out a statement in Ankara's ulus Square.

"Those who cannot stop reporting are trying to arrest those who report. If the press is silenced, then the people are silenced and blindfolded," HDP deputy Piroğlu said during the event.

Last week, police detained 22 people in raids targeting Kurdish journalists and media outlets in Diyarbakır.

Journalists and NGO representatives gathered in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse to protest the detentions.

Taken into custody in Brussels on December 15, director of Fırat News Agency, Maxime Demiralp has been arrested.

Journalist Emine Demir is one of the Kurdish journalists sentenced by High Criminal Courts in the Kurdish-majority province of Diyarbakır. The courts decreed for prison terms of 167 years in total handed down to journalists of Kurdish papers and Kurdish politicians.
