The police did not allow a gathering of journalists today (July 5) in Ankara, the capital, to read out a statement against the arrest of 16 Kurdish journalists in Diyarbakır.
Surrounding the protesting journalists, the police detained three of them — Deniz Nazlım, a reporter for the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) in Ankara, Sibel Yükler, and another journalist whose name could not be learned yet.
The journalists then went to the Ankara office of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK) as the police presence continued in Ulus Square, where the journalists initially gathered.
Sixteen Kurdish journalists on June 16 were arrested on "terrorist propaganda" charges.
