Gültekin and Önsel from the Labour Party, Özlü from the National Channel and Perinçek from Istanbul University were arrested in the scope of the Ergenekon investigation on 23 August. They were in police custody since 19 August.

Journalist Şık Absent at Court - Transportation Mishap at Prison
"We touch even if we get burned" was the motto of demonstrators who protested the trial against journalists Ahmet Şık and Ertuğrul Mavioğlu. The hearing was postponed to 13 May because Şık was not brought to court by the authorities of the Silivri Prison.

Zekeriya Öz Deposed as Special Authority Prosecutor
Prosecutor Zekeriya Öz, previously running the Ergenekon investigation, was now appointed as Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul. According to a decree of the HSYK, the positions of 128 judges and prosecutors were changed.

Ergenekon Prosecutor Zekeriya Öz gave the directive for an operation in nine different provinces all over the country. The searches are related to the murder of three people at the Zirve Publishing Company in Malatya in 2007. 20 people have allegedly been taken into custody.

Kaşif Kozinoğlu, member of the National Intelligence Agency, was arrested on 11 March. His home had recently been searched together with the office of the Oda TV news portal in the scope of the Ergenekon probe. He is alleged of leaking classified information.

Journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener were arrested by an Istanbul court on duty on Sunday because of their alleged affiliation to the Ergenekon terrorist organization. Journalists protested the arrests in front of the courthouse and blocked the road with a sit-down strike.

Chief Prosecutor Cihaner Released
The 11th Chamber of the Court of Appeals decided to merge the cases against Erzincan Public Chief Prosecutor Cihaner at the Erzurum 2nd High Criminal Court and at the Court of Appeals respectively. The prosecutor of the Court of Appeals demanded the release of all detained defendants of both cases. The court accepted the request.

Tensed Discussion between Defendant Özkan and President Judge Şengün
The hearing of the Ergenekon case was interrupted because of an ongoing discussion between judge Köksal Şengün and the detained defendant Tuncay Özkan. Defendant Küçük was not allowed to wear his cap in the court room. Because of hearing problems the identity of defendant İbrahim Şahin could not be confirmed.
