Human Right Association (IHD) released a report on the situation of Turkey’s border with Syria, urging the authorities to provide legal status and healthcare for refugees.

48 journalists were assaulted and 11 detained in Turkey’s Gezi Resistance. As of October 2013, 66 journalists and 27 publishers remained behind bars. 28 journalists, authors and media representatives were convicted to a total of one life sentence, 329 years and 2 months of prison.

An Adana province court issued a verdict in the case of Ahmet Yıldız (13), an undocumented child worker, died on the job due to a press machine. The defendant employer was ordered to pay 30,040 lira with 24 monthly installments.

Turkey’s Supreme Court of Appeals 9th Chamber overthrew the convictions for 63 defendants in the Sledgehammer (Balyoz) case with 361 defendants. While 25 were released pending a trial, 34 were acquitted.

Following his criticism on the open cleavage of a TV presenter who subsequently lost her job, AKP Vice President Hüseyin Çelik stood behind his words, saying that “it is my right to express this, it is my freedom of expression”.

ECHR convicted Turkey of violating the freedom of expression for issuing an injunction on an article by Cumhuriyet newspaper after Abdullah Gül filed a complaint prior to presidential elections in 2007.

A compilation made by bianet revealed that male perpetrators left 24 women dead, 10 raped, 10 battered and 15 harassed in February 2012. Overall in 2012, male violence left 47 women dead, 28 raped, 60 battered and 56 harassed.

Denying allegations regarding his resignation, BDP Joint Chairperson Demirtaş criticized the latest reforms: “The AKP government de facto ended dialogue process.”
