Presidency has released a statement refuting an article published on the New York Times regarding the number of people who have emigrated from Turkey: “The number of emigrants in 2017 is not over quarter of a million, but 113 thousand and 326 people.”

In Hacıbektaşlı village of the Manisa province, construction of a geothermal energy plant has been halted after the efforts of the villagers and CHP MP Özgür Özel. The construction was underway despite an ongoing legal process.

The Turkish Medical Association has asked the Ministry of Health why the results of a cancer research were not made public. Academic Bülent Şık, who partly revealed the results, is facing up to 12 years in prison.

One soldier has lost his life in an attack which was conducted by the PKK against a military post on Turkey-Iran border. Governorship of Iğdır has announced that two soldiers have also been wounded in the attack.

A ceremony has been held for academic Ceren Damar Şenel, who has been murdered by one of her students. Education and Science Workers' Union has pointed to disregard for academic freedom, individual armament and impunity.

One academic has been sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison. The court board has ruled that the pronouncement of the verdict shall be suspended.

With TurkStat announcing the inflation figures, wage increases for civil servants and pensioners have also been determined. Wages for active and retired civil servants will rise by 10.69 percent, pensioners from SGK and BAĞ-KUR by 10.19 percent.

Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) has announced that at least 351 curfews have been declared in 11 provinces and 51 districts in Turkey since August 16, 2015. The highest number of officially confirmed curfews have been declared in Diyarbakır.

The Turkish Statistical Institute has announced the inflation figures for December and 2018. While the consumer inflation has fallen by 0.40 percent in December, the annual consumer inflation has become 20.30 percent in 2018.

A lawsuit has been filed against Bülent Şık due to his article series entitled “The state has concealed the carcinogen products, we are making them public,” which was published on Cumhuriyet newspaper. Şık has been facing up to 12 years in prison.

An investigation has been launched against the former Chair and Administrative Board members of the Diyarbakır Bar Association for “openly degrading the Turkish nation, state and institutions” as per the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code.
