MP Halis from Tunceli handed in a proposal for recognizing Alevi 'cem' houses as places of worship. He suggests the amendment of three laws. A similar proposal made by crossbench MP Genç from Tunceli in 2008 was not considered by the parliament.

Another Coup Plan Revealed
According to Taraf newspaper, a plan to bring the country into disorder was worked out in 2003. Bombings of mosques during the Friday prayer, crashing a Turkish jet plane and warplanes flying over the parliament should lead to martial law and a coup.

Investigation into Secret Funds
Four people were arrested related to the spending of secret funds at the command of Şener Eruygur, who apparently received TL 13,000,000 from the fund. Ergenekon defendant Ersöz stated that all referring documents were destroyed before Eruygur's retirement.

Legislative Proposal: Omit Religious Indication from IDs
Peace and Democracy Party member Halis suggested a draft bill for lifting religious indication on Turkish identity cards. According to legal amendments made in 2006, religious indication still exists. The according field can be left blank upon a written application only.

DTP Closure Made Official, Political Ban Effected
The decision of the closure of Democratic Society Party taken by the Constitutional Court in December has been published in the Official Gazette and thus been legally enforced. Hereupon, the political ban for 37 DTP members comes into effect and the MP status of the co-chairs officially ends.

5th Search of Special Forces, 8 Soldiers Released
Judge Kayan carried out the fifth search of the Special Forces. The court released all 8 soldiers that had been arrested after the first search last week despite the prosecutors' request of keeping three military officers in detention.

General Staff Denies Connections to JİTEM

A Diyarbakır Court acquitted Diyarbakır Metropolitan Mayor Baydemir and decreed that his reference to the PKK as the "armed Kurdish opposition" accounts for a basic element of freedom of expression. The court emphasized that it ruled on the base of the constitution.
