"Our struggle against violence against women did not start with the İstanbul Convention and will not end with it," the president has said.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Züleyha Gülüm has submitted a parliamentary question regarding the reports on sexual assault against LGBTI+ prisoner Memiş Akbaş.

Lawyer Molu underlines that even though the Convention is no longer in force in Turkey, the country still has legal obligations in the face of male violence: “Men shouldn’t think, ‘I attack women and go unpunished.’ This is not the case.”

“Turkey has set the clock back ten years on women’s rights and set a terrifying precedent. This deplorable decision has already become a rallying point for women’s rights activists all over the world,” says Amnesty's Secretary General Callamard.

Shortly after the main opposition CHP and İYİ Party MPs withdrew from the Parliamentary Commission for Inquiring the Causes of Violence Against Women, the HDP MPs have also followed suit and withdrawn from the Commission.

The first Pride March to be held in Eskişehir was met with police intervention. Police took 30 people into custody before and after the march.

Ahead of the first Pride March today, the LGBTI+s in Turkey’s Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir say, “We come together against the institutions that disregard the experiences of subjects; we get organized against all discriminatory practices.”

LGBTI+s were faced with attempted lynching in İstanbul’s Tophane neighbourhood; police told them, “Don’t exaggerate.” They have received a medical report documenting the battery and are now preparing to file a criminal complaint.

Amnesty International has condemned the “baseless and arbitrary banning for the sixth consecutive year of İstanbul Pride in clear violation of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression and the use of unnecessary and excessive force.”

Both in the statements they gave and the pictures they drew, the two siblings talked about the abuse they had been subjected to. The release of the mother and the stepfather has caused a public outrage.

The LGBTI+s who came together in Taksim for the 19th İstanbul Pride March were once again attacked by the police.

The houses where trans women live in İstanbul have been sealed off. Legist Kerem Dikmen has noted that it is against the law. The Pride Week Committee has also stressed that it is not a coincidence that it has happened right after the Pride March.

Briefly detained at Boğaziçi University and standing trial for carrying a rainbow flag representing the LGBTI+ community, 12 students had their second hearing today, on June 28. A press statement was made before the hearing.

The Human Rights Association (İHD) has released a written statement about the police attack on the 19th İstanbul Pride March in Taksim on June 26, when several people were detained by torture by the police.

LGBTI+s wanted to have a picnic in İstanbul’s Maçka Park a few days ago. It was banned. They wanted to hold a pride march in Taksim Square, one of the most well-known squares of the world. It was also banned. The year is 2021.

"Last year has passed with oppression, violence and bullying for both LGBTI+s and the whole society. However, we don't back down from our rights, existence, and freedom," reads the press statement made at the 19th İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride March.

The Sub-Governor’s Office of Beyoğlu has banned the LGBTI+ Pride March to be held in Taksim. The police attacked the group who gathered in Taksim. Using plastic bullets, they have taken at least 20 people into custody.

In a first in its history, the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İMM) organized the Purple Summit, where women’s organizations and the İMM officials met.

As the Pride March has been banned for the seventh consecutive year, LGBTI+s say they will defy the ban and "find one another on the streets."

Despite all attempts of prevention, women have put a signboard on the street where Deniz Poyraz was killed in an armed attack against the HDP İzmir office and named the street after the deceased woman.
