Upon a motion by Ministry of Health, Turkey’s Higher Board of Radio and Television (RTÜK) stopped the television ad of LÖSEV cancer foundation to fundraise for the most extensive oncology hospital project in Turkey.
The decision was taken by a majority vote from the RTÜK members affiliated with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
Previously, RTÜK admitted the running of the same television ad twice for a period of six months each.
“The ad was canceled upon the health ministry’s motion that LÖSEV didn’t have the hospital license for this project,” Ali Öztunç, a RTÜK member from the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) told bianet.
“Hereby,” Öztunç continued, “this is not only punishing LÖSEV but those who will benefit from the health services of that hospital.”
On the other hand, LÖSEV official commented to bianet that their board was still discussion on the issue and they have yet to make a concluding statement. (EA/BM)
