The pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party (DTP) has reacted to the release of the man who shot at the party's headquarters and who will be tried without detention:
"Some discomforted by peace"
"The attack has shown one more time that there are forces in this country who are seriously discomforted by efforts to bring peace and security to this country and who will do anything to sabotage these efforts."
The suspect had justified his attack by saying, "I expressed my reaction". The DTP has said, "We know that those who used the mask of religion in the name of Hizbullah are the same people as those who are now brought onto the market with the discourse of 'nationalism' and 'expressing one's reaction'."
Also referring to the bombing of a bookshop in Semdinli (south-eastern Turkey) by army members and the murder of journalist Hrant Dink, the statement claimed that the public was well aware of who was protecting whom.
Forces boycotting peace
Selma Irmak, co-chair of the DTP, pointed out in the statement that whenever there was serious social support for peace, that dark forces started acting and spreading provocation. She added that the party's demands for peace and freedom had been twisted so as to declare it an enemy of Turkey, and that this was dangerous.
Irmak also criticised the present government for not producing any political solutions to the Kurdish question. (TK/AG)
