Violence Victim Academician Faces Trial
Osman Erden, an assistant professor who was detained and subjected to police violence in downtown Istanbul during Gezi Resistance, was ordered to stand trial for “resisting police officers and attending an illegal demonstration”. Erden is facing prison sentence up to 3 years.

Two expert reports have been submitted in the case of Ethem Sarısülük, a Gezi Resistance protestor who was shot dead by police officer Ahmet Şahbaz. “Self-defense is out of question,” cited a report submitted by Prof. Dr. Klaus Stanjek from Germany.

Police Attacks “Justice” Demonstration
Police broke up protestors in Istanbul’s Okmeydani district who gathered to demand justice for B.E. (14), a Gezi Resistance demonstrator in coma for 86 days. While 10 demonstrators and 1 policeman were injured, 5 were detained including 3 children. Among injured protestors included Mete Diş, a cancer patient.

Turkey Found Guilty in 4 Cases, Ordered to Pay 38,500 Euros
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found Turkey guilty in 4 different cases regarding torture, police murder, suspected soldier death and limitation of defense rights, ordering the Turkish state tp pay a total of 38,500 euros.

Police Detains 6 People “Just in Case”
Police detained 6 individuals at the entry of Izmir International Fair on the possibility that they could “launch a Gezi Resistance protest”. Released after the ceremony, detainees have filed complaints on policemen for “arbitrary detention and ill-treatment”.

Machete-Carrying Man Released Again
Sabri Çelebi, a machete-carrying aggressor who attacked Gezi Park protestors and police officers with a capture warrant, has been detained upon his return to Turkey. Following the judicial procedures, he has been released again.

Kemal Avcı, an inmate battling with cancer, has been released by a court. He is expected to be discharged from Tekirdağ Prison after the completion of procedures.

Turkey Convicted of Pepper Gas Use, Police Violence
The European Court of Human Rights reached a verdict on the case of Nergiz Izci, a peaceful March 8 demonstrator who was subjected to police beatings and pepper gas. Turkey was ordered to pay 20,000 euros to Izci.

Charges: Portraying Turkish State as Evil
Istanbul 23rd High Criminal Court admitted the indictment on 22 advocates - a court file that included most of its evidences as anonymous word documents. One of the notable charges in the indictment listed: “Portraying the state as an entity that tortures its own citizens, confines and annihilates its prisoners”.

Ethem Sarısülük Case Suspended
Ankara 6th High Criminal Court suspended the trial of policeman Ahmet Şahbaz in the Ethem Sarısülük case, saying that necessary permission have not been taken on the prosecution of a policeman. “Police is being protected by the arm of justice. Justice process is blocked,” said advocate Bayraktar.

“Suspected Policeman Might Receive No Prison Sentence”
An Ankara court accepted the prosecutor’s indictment on the case of Ahmet Şahbaz - a policeman who will stand trial for shooting Gezi protestor Ethem Sarısülük dead. “He might receive no prison sentence if the courts orders suspension due to low limit sentence,” Sarısülük family’s advocate said.

8 Gezi Parkers including a flag seller, who were arrested for “not dispersing as non-armed demonstrators after police warning”, have objected their arrest this morning. “Suspects used their rights to remain silent at police headquarters,” court logs cited.

19 Ordered to Pay 4,500 Euros for Pot&Pan Protest
Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TIHV) released a statement, saying that 101 demonstrators were arrested during Gezi Resistance protests across Turkey with charges including “raiding a mosque”. Those who joined the protests by making noise with pots and pans were ordered to pay a total of 9,880 lira (roughly 4,500 euros).

A vacation high criminal court accepted the objection made by advocates of 7 Gezi Park protestors whom another court issued arrest orders for having construction helmets and plasters. A court ordered the arrest of 7 defendants who were detained and released during Gezi Park protests. Tourniquets and plasters were listed as “crime instruments” of a jailed protestor - who is a medical doctor. Other evidence included construction helmets.

Police Points Gun in Ankara Again
Police allegedly pointed guns at civilians and were stopped during a raid in Ankara where 20 individuals were detained. In the southern province of Adana, 6 have been arrested for “participating protests through organizations broadcasting on internet”.

“Court Disregarded Evidence!”
Kazım Bayraktar, attorney of Ethem Sarısülük, claimed that the court did not arrest the policeman suspected of Sarısülük’s murder as it disregarded “expert and autopsy reports as well as surveillance camera recordings” and only decided upon police testimony.

During the Gezi Resistance across Turkey, police violence left 4 protestors dead and 7,882 injured with 59 gravely injured. 71 demonstrators have been arrested for “public property damage”. Advocate Efkan Bolaç informed that no violent perpetrator police officers (except one) have yet to be arrested or prosecuted.

450 Missing, 169 Detained in Istanbul
Following police attacks, Istanbul’s crisis desk received 450 missing and detention applications. At the moment, 169 individuals are still waiting in Istanbul’s Police Headquarters. The detention tolls are 116 in Ankara and approximately 30 in Eskişehir.

Human Right Association of Turkey (IHD) urged all police violence victims of Gezi Park resistance to file complaints to be brought to the attention of the European Court of Human Rights according to the “state of emergency” exception in the convention.
