Press Freedom Associations Call for Journalists' Release
The Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF) issued a statement calling for the release of imprisoned journalists in Turkey, while the Brussels-based European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) also said they were closely monitoring the press trials in Turkey.

Reporters Without Borders criticized the application of the internet filtering system in Turkey and also the access bans to many sites. Even though the list of banned words was described as "laughable" it still constitutes a restriction of freedoms, RSF warned.

Reporters Without Borders compiled a list of the world's ten most dangerous places for the media. According to the report, 66 journalists were killed in 2012.

RSF criticized the Turkish government for more than 25 articles in the Turkish Criminal Law and the Anti-Terror law that restrict press freedom and free speech. The drafted amendments were only "cosmetic and superficial changes", RSF said.

Turkey in Free Fall
Turkey ranges in 138th position among 178 countries reviewed for the World Press Freedom Index issued by Reporters without Borders. This is a further decline compared to last year's 122nd rank. RSF criticized the quickly increasing number of sanctions against journalists.

RSF Condemns Punishment of HaberTürk
Reporters without Boarders condemned the punishment imposed on Haber Türk by the Radio and TV Supreme Council as "censorship pure and simple". RSF claimed that writer Nişanyan fulfilled his duty as a journalist and called on the council to withdraw the punishment.

Journalist Associations Criticize Heavy Sentence of Kurdish Journalist
National and international journalists associations criticized the prison sentence of 166.5 years handed down to journalist Vedat Kurşun. The decision is viewed as highly disproportional and politically motivated. The associations urge for a review of the referring legislations.
