Nine Kurdish journalists who spent nine months in pre-trial detention on "terrorism-related" charges have had their second hearing.

"What I have done is to practice my profession in order to protect the rights of an innocent child," the journalist has said.

Shortly before his detention, the journalist told bianet that "I did not praise Öcalan but cricitized the AKP's hypocrisy."

The journalist was remanded in custody following her detention in late April.

While the court acquitted Doğan Ergün and İzel Sezer of "insult" and "libel," it convicted the journalists of "disclosure of personal data."

The two individuals, including a police officer, have been remanded in custody. Meanwhile, the mayor has denied any involvement in the attack.

"Our news articles, the photographs we use, books, and news notes have become the subject of accusations," the journalist said in her defense at the hearing.

When the Journalists Union of Turkey acquired the required majority to engage in collective bargaining negotiations in 2019, the Hürriyet newspaper retaliated by retroactively terminating the contracts of 45 unionized employees.

"We no longer want to report on violence and bans against LGBTI+s!" 154 journalists said in a joint statement.

Prosecutors have indicted the officer for beating a journalist during ministers' visit to Elazığ last year.
