Arrests of Journalists Protested in Turkey and Abroad
Protestors in Ankara wore a black band around their mouths to express their protest against the arrest of journalists Şık and Şener. Press members in Istanbul called for legal amendments and the release of the detained journalists. HRW and RSF criticized the arrests and restriction on press freedom.

In their latest Turkey report, Human Rights Watch calls on the government to stop treating demonstrators as "armed militants" and to amend anti-terror laws. Author of the report Sinclair-Webb warned that restricting free speech and association "makes armed opposition more attractive".

The Constitutional Court ruled for the closure of pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party and imposed a political ban on 37 of its members. Co-chairs Türk and Tuğluk are deposed from their duties as MPs. Human Rights organizations criticized the decision.
