After the recent severe case of rape of Women Movement member K.S., members of the Istanbul Women Platform demonstrated in a sit-down strike against rape and abuse of women. They criticized the government for an increasing number of rapes just when the war is escalating.

Demonstration for Democratic Constitution Ends with Tear Gas
The police intervened with tear gas and truncheons against demonstrators voicing their opinions on a democratic constitution in Kadıköy/Istanbul during the weekend. The meeting was attended by 5,000 people, among them members of political parties and non-governmental organizations.

More than 6 Years Imprisonment for 15-Year-Old
In a single hearing, a 15-year-old child was sentenced to imprionment of more than six years. The conviction was based on police statements and a photo showing a child from behind. Lawyer Turgay Berk appealed to the decision.

Police Force against IMF-WB Protestors - 200 People Arrested
About 2000 people wanted to participate in a demonstration against IMF and World Bank starting on Taksim Square in Istanbul. The police intervened with tear gas, tinted water and water cannons. Clashes occurred in a number of neighboring districts.

Unions Urge For Taksim Square, Government Says A Wreath Is Enough
PM Erdoğan says yes to a May Day press statement and a wreath-laying ceremony in Istanbul's central Taksim Square, but no to a meeting. The unions propose to enter Taksim only from one side. Çelebi from Disk says they do not want this square closed to them.
