Journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener Arrested
Journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener were arrested by an Istanbul court on duty on Sunday because of their alleged affiliation to the Ergenekon terrorist organization. Journalists protested the arrests in front of the courthouse and blocked the road with a sit-down strike.

Judge and Prosecutor brought Academic to Jail
Lecturer Bilal Bekar was arrested after an argument with a judge in Rize. A court had decreed not to arrest him, but Bekar was taken to jail upon the prosecution's appeal. The teachers' union criticized the arrest as being "contrary to the law".

Berivan Eker, former editor-in-chief of the Renge Heviya Jine women magazine, was arrested on 5 December. Her predecessors Gurbet Çakar, Sultan Sonsuz, Ruken Aktaş and Sibel Esmer are either convicted or facing prison terms.

Kurdish Artist Rojda on Trial
Kurdish artists Rojda was taken into custody by reason of having spread "propaganda for an illegal organization" by performing a Kurdish song at a festival in Diyarbakır. Rojda is one of 160 artists invited by the Prime Minister to discuss the "Kurdish initiative".

Eskişehir Gendarmerie Regiment Commander Gençoğlu was arrested on appeal in the context of the investigation related to the "Ergenekon terror organization", subsequent to the arrest of non-commissioned officer Bozkurt from the Kahramanmaraş Gendarmerie.
