In Ergenekon investigation, Istanbul’s 13th High Criminal Court rejected prosecutor’s demand that those eight people who were released a few days ago should be arrested back.

Justice Ministry refused the trial of journalist İbrahim Tığ under article301, who had criticized government’s privatization program and called it an act of treason.

The Supreme Court of Appeals rejected Ağar’s case on the grounds that he was a governor at the time of the crime. Ağar has been under investigation for some time in the Susurluk conspiracy.

Three gunmen attack the police guard at the US Embassy, killing three police officers. The gunmen are killed at the scene. They are identified as Turkish citizens, but the organization behind the incident is not known.

Although the court refused to combine the Trabzon and Samsun cases about Hrant Dink’s murder with the main case in Istanbul, it did however take some positive steps.

Hrant’s Friends were at same spot as before yesterday morning to show determination and hope that in spite of all the obstacles the justice may come forward in Hrant Dink’s murder case.

The court heard the testimonies of İğci, Tuncel and Samast, but in spite of all the indications, it refused to see any connection with the Gendarmerie trial in Trabzon. The accused did not seem to take the trial seriously, making fun of the questions.

Hrant’s friends ask everyone to gather at Beşiktaş Square in Istanbul for the sixth hearing of the case tomorrow morning (June 7) at 9:30.

The court released “Cumhuriyet”s Ankara representative Balbay. He declined to comment about the incident, saying that the judiciary process was still not completed. Authorities are still questioning retired generals Tolon and Eruygur.

The police send those detainees whose interrogations are completed to the court. Among them are Aygün and Balbay. Some are released.

The indictment of the year long Ergenekon investigation will be delayed. Although previously the major cause of the delay was the technical problems, now it is also the new detentions.

One of the lawyers in the case revealed that the hand grenades that started the whole operation and are the principal evidence in the case were destroyed by İstanbul’s 10th High Criminal Court.

The head of Human Rights Foundation of Turkey evaluates the recent Ergenekon investigation and concludes that there is no reason to be overly optimistic and claim that this operation will result in Turkey’s democratization.
