Police officer Ahmet Şahbaz received 7 years and 9 months of prison for shooting Ethem Sarısülük dead. An "unjust provocation" reduction has been applied to Şahbaz’s penalty.

PEN-International and Consulate of Sweden organized a joint panel discussion where changes in 12-year-long AKP power freedom of expression in Turkey were discussed. Schoulgin from PEN and two authors from Turkey debated about those issues.
