The new Statutory Decree decree No. 696, released yesterday, has cleared the way for the removal of the olive groves in Bursa’s Gemlik district, population 107,000. CHP representative İrgil has stated that “this Statutory Decree is the death of these olive groves.”

The fifth hearing in Cumhuriyet Trial in which 20 defendants five of whom are in detention pending trial, was held today before İstanbul 27th Assize Court in Çağlayan, İstanbul. The court has decided that the defendants remain in pre-trial detention. Next hearing will be held on March 9, 2018.

The court has ordered Yılmaz, who lost his eye with a plastic bullet fired by police, to be paid 376 thousand 879 liras. The police officer was sentenced to 6 months and 20 days in prison.
