Journalist and columnist Yıldırım Türker, who joined closed Özgür Gündem newspaper’s Editors-in-Chief on Watch campaign, appeared before judge today (March 7) following Nadire Mater. Türker has been sentenced to 1 year, 10 months and 15 days in prison (deferred).

Journalist Nadire Mater has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined 6,000 TL on charge of “terror propaganda” in Özgür Gündem case. The prison sentence has been suspended.

Özgür Gündem Editor-in-Chief on Watch campaign editors Nadire Mater, Jülide Kural, Murat Uyurkulak, Hasan Cemal and Yıldırım Türker as well as columnist İlham Bakır will stand trial tomorrow.

Journalist and painter Zehra Doğan has been sentenced to 2 years 9 months and 22 days in prison due to her painting on Nusaybin.

Azadiya Welat newspaper owner Ramazan Ölçen has been detained in Diyarbakır province.

Özgür Gelecek Newspaper editor-in-chief Aslı Ceren Aslan was taken into custody in Urfa where she wanted to follow up the latest developments in Syria and Rojava and was later arrested for “border violation” and “being a member of an [illegal] organization”.
