Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chair Sadi Güven has announced that the results of İstanbul Metropolitan Mayoral election rerun have been entered into the system of the Council.
Addressing journalists in front of YSK Office in Ankara earlier today (June 24), Güven stated that while Nation Alliance's candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has received 4 million 741 thousand 868 votes (54.21 percent), People's Alliance's candidate Binali Yıldırım from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has received 3 million 935 thousand 453 votes (44.99 percent).
Of 10 million 560 thousand 963 İstanbulites registered as voters, 8 million 925 thousand 63 voters cast their votes yesterday, Güven indicated further. This figure has accounted for a voter turnout of 84.5 percent.
While 8 million 746 thousand 464 of these votes have been deemed valid, the number of invalid votes has been announced as 178 thousand 599.
Felicity Party (SP) candidate Necdet Gökçınar has received 47 thousand 829 thousand votes (0.55 percent) and Patriotic Party candidate Mustafa İlker Yücel has received 14 thousand 545 votes (0.17 percent).
The joint minutes indicating the unofficial results of the repeat İstanbul Metropolitan Mayoral election has been hung on the pinboard of İstanbul Provincial Election Directorate in İstanbul Courthouse.
Objections until 3 p.m. tomorrow
Sharing information regarding the process of objections and appeals against the results, Güven stated that political parties can appeal to district election councils until 3 p.m. tomorrow. The district election councils will conclude the objections and appeals at 5 p.m. on June 27 the latest.
Objections can be raised to the İstanbul Provincial Election Council until 5 p.m. on June 28. Then, the Provincial Election Council will have two days to conclude these objections. (AS/SD)
