Released Academics Kaya, Camcı Speak

This is the first workday after the release of the four academics signing the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime”.

Students at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts (MSGSÜ) University where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy works, and at Boğaziçi University where Assist. Prof. Dr. Esra Mungan works have greeted them.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya from Nişantaşı University and Assist. Prof. Dr. Meral Camcı from İstanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University couldn’t return to their work since they were discharged for signing the declaration prior to the arrest.

We’ve spoken with Muzaffer Kaya and Meral Camcı. Kaya noted that he is glad that he didn’t miss cercis season at Boğaziçi University from where he graduated. Camci expressing that her students will visit her at her house said, “University building is closed but we can take university to anywhere”.

Kaya: We’ve caught the cercis season

Muzaffer Kaya replied to our question from Boğaziçi University at where he did his Bacehlors and PhD.

“I couldn’t contact my students, and we couldn’t return to education.

“I am here for my friends and to bring my kid to the kindergarten. I am enjoying being unemployed. I studied for long years at the Boğaziçi, I did my Bachelors and PhD here. I was afraid to miss the cercis season of the Boğaziçi. I am glad that we’ve caught it.

“I am enjoying seeing the cercis, and sitting together with a friend through greens of the South Campus”.

Camcı: We can take university to anywhere

Meral Camcı said she felt a great joy as she saw Kıvanç Ersoy and Esra Mungan’s being greeted by their students.

“Our students are the indispensable components of university. Their reactions, supports are extremely valuable. Our students’ being beside us make our struggle meaningful.

“I cannot return to the university. I’ve lost my job. Nevertheless, my students are always by my side, they are sending messages, they wrote letters. They will come home and we will meet here. University building is closed but we can take university to anywhere, they cannot separate us in this regard”.

Annulment action of Camcı against her discharge is continuing.

They greeted the academics at MSGSÜ and the Boğaziçi

The students organized a greeting at the department of mathematics at MSGSÜ where Kıvanç Erosy works as an academic member.

Ersoy said they haven’t felt alone thanks to the support of the students.

Esra Mungan has been greeted by the banner reading “Welcome dear Esra. We’ve missed you a lot!” on the door of the faculty at Department of Psychology at Boğaziçi University where she is an academic member. (BK/TK)
