The Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has made a statement regarding the death of 11-year-old Rabia Naz Vatan, suggesting she may have died from a fall.
Minister of Justice Abdullah Gül shared the statement on Twitter and said, "Conducting the investigation studiously, The Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is evaluating all probabilities. We are also closely following the process. The sole authority to illuminate the incident is the Prosecutor's Office; we trust it."
Şaban Vatan, who has been personally investigating his daughter's death for almost one year, replied the Minister on Twitter.
"Dear Mr. Minister, Trabzon Forensic Medicine says, 'general body trauma'. Besides, there are no findings on the scene of the incident that belong to my baby. Besides, the crime scene investigation team never used a video recording in the four different places where they conducted an investigation. Is this not a crime?
"The institutions, the units and dear people who are in charge regarding the Rabia Naz Vatan murder, question the heart of a father you have, empathize with me, a father has been searching for months for the perpetrators of the killing of her daughter and for justice. There should be ones who have children among you, their happiness means the worlds to you."
"My daughter was left in front of the home while she was injured"
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said in its statement that the investigation is continuing and it is "examining the claims of a traffic accident which are not based on eyewitness accounts."
"These claims have not been verified by the findings obtained. In the examination at the scene of the incident, no evidence or indication of blood trace, brake trace, or car hit was found," it said.
Şaban Vatan claims that her daughter was hit in another place and was left in front of her family's home while injured.
"Eyewitnesses have not been listened to"
The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said, "School bag of the decedent was found on the left side of the roof door."
Rabia Naz was claimed to commit suicide by jumping from the terrace of her family's home.
Her father said that the school bag could not be found at first, but it was found around five hours after the incident, left under a chair at the roof terrace. He also said that the eyewitnesses who found the bag were not listened to by the authorities.
The Prosecutor's Office also said that the death occurred "because of bone fractures and internal organ injuries related to general body trauma," and these findings are "suitable with falling down from height."
Giresun Bar Association intervenes in investigation
The Giresun Bar Association released a statement today (March 27), refuting the claims on social media that it did not intervene in the case of Rabia Naz.
The Bar said that they began to "follow the case studiously from the first day" after the news reports published on the media
It said that it put the case on its agenda and decided to intervene in the case upon the Board of Directors Decree No. 2019/15 on February 25.
"Regardless of the thoughts, positions, posts, titles of those who are responsible, we have been the followers of the case since the first day and will be until the end," said the statement, signed by the Bar's chair, Attorney Soner Karademir.
SP Chair: 'MP Canikli tried to cover up the incident'
The Felicity Party's (SP) Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu also commented on the issue today.
In line with claims of Şaban Vatan, the father of Rabia Naz, he said that the government and the authorities are trying to cover up the incident after it is learned that the suspect is "an important person in Giresun."
"I feel the need to give a name, Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli made an attempt to cover up [the incident]. This situation shows the pathetic state of justice in this country," Karamollaoğlu added.
What happened?Rabia Naz Vatan was found injured in front of her home in Eynesil, Giresun on April 13, 2018. While the police records said that the girl committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of her family's home, her father claimed that she was killed. "A car hit my daughter but the hit was not strong enough to result in her death. Those who hit Rabia Naz then brought her near my house to make the incident look like my daughter committed suicide. My daughter lost her life because of blood loss," he said. Vatan said that the person who hit her daughter by a car was the nephew of Eynesil Mayor Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, according to the information he obtained. Vatan also claimed that the case was covered up after the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli intervened in. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu met with Vatan in February on the killing of his daughter. He told bianet after that the meeting took 10 minutes. Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said on Mach 20 that the Görele Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting the investigation into the incident and the search for evidence is still continuing. On March 21, Şaban Vatan was taken into custody upon the complaint of his brother and referred to a mental institution for a mental health check.
