In the district of Eynesil in Giresun, where 11-year-old Rabia Naz Vatan lost her life in a suspicious manner, Ahmet Latif Deniz, the mayor candidate of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has won the local elections according to unofficial results. Deniz was competing against the current mayor from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
While it is alleged that Rabia Naz lost her life by claiming her own life or falling from a higher place, father Şaban Vatan claims that she has died in a traffic accident by the nephew of Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, the Mayor of Eynesil, who was also a candidate in March 31 local elections.
'Justice will be served'
Speaking to bianet, father Şaban Vatan, who has been striving to solve the suspicious death of his daughter, has stated, "We have won our first victory now. God willing, justice will be served."
Underlining that the people of Eynesil have been supporting the AKP since 2002, when the party came to power, and they were voting for right-wing parties before that, Vatan has said, "When political opinions of the people are considered, Eynesil always supported right-wing parties."
Reiterating that he and his wife were also supporters of the AKP before the death of their daughter Rabia Naz, Şaban Vatan has further stated, "I am glad that we were the supporters of the party. I am glad that we were from the AKP and worked for them. Because they have always talked about a political perception. They have created the political perception themselves."
'The people have given their answer'
Referring to the unofficial election results in Eynesil, Giresun, Şaban Vatan has said, "The people of Eynesil have honored me and I have told everyone that I am grateful." Vatan has added:
"Even if they try to close this file, we are, of course, still hopeful. It is not the end of anything. The people of Eynesil have laid claim to their child. Everyone has shown their all sensitivity despite everything. They have held the incident in its hidden course and given the answer. The process was supposed to proceed in this way.
"Because Eynesil turned into a district, a town of mafia. There was a huge pressure, a huge influence on the people of Eynesil. Peace came to Eynesil yesterday. Yesterday, Eynesil became a place where peace prevails."
'My son was happy for the first time'
Stating that her wife was also happy with the result of the election, Şaban Vatan has concluded his remarks as follows:
"My wife said, 'Yes, we will call them to account for our Naz.' Because the picture of yesterday has given her hope. My son is a very quiet child. Even he told me, 'Dad, you have won, the incident of Naz will be solved.' My son was happy for the first time.
"What troubles me is not only Rabia Naz. My aim is justice for everyone like Rabia Naz. Justice should be put into effect for everyone, everyone should benefit from this justice. It is our struggle. God willing, Turkey's hunger for justice will also be satisfied."
What happened?Rabia Naz Vatan was found injured in front of her home in Eynesil, Giresun on April 13, 2018. While the police records said that the girl committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of her family's home, her father claimed that she was killed. "A car hit my daughter but the hit was not strong enough to result in her death. Those who hit Rabia Naz then brought her near my house to make the incident look like my daughter committed suicide. My daughter lost her life because of blood loss," he said. Vatan said that the person who hit her daughter by a car was the nephew of Eynesil Mayor Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, according to the information he obtained. Vatan also claimed that the case was covered up after the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli intervened in. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu met with Vatan in February on the killing of his daughter. He told bianet after that the meeting took 10 minutes. Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said on Mach 20 that the Görele Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting the investigation into the incident and the search for evidence is still continuing. On March 21, Şaban Vatan was taken into custody upon the complaint of his brother and referred to a mental institution for a mental health check. Father Vatan was then released from detention the next day, on March 22. On March 26, father Vatan deposed at the security directorate upon the criminal complaint of AKP MP Nurettin Canikli |
