The co-chairs of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), Ahmet Türk and Aysel Tuğluk, met the President of Iraq and leader of the Kurdistan Patriots Association (KYB), Jalal Talabani on Sunday (5 September) in Süleymaniye. They talked about cooperation and a joint movement as means to resolve the Kurdish question.
As reported by the KYB PUK Media office, the development of bilateral relations at all levels was brought to the agenda.
According to Fırat News Agency, the delegation from Turkey included the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair, Bengi Yıldız, the Muş Deputy Sırrı Sadık, the Erbil Representative Ruşen Mahmutoğlu and writer Altan Tan.
The Democratic Society Congress met for the first time in October 2007 upon the call of the pro-Kurdish DTP. The Congress met for the fourth time in August this year with almost 800 delegates in attendance and made the following call:
"We invite everyone living in our geographical region to take a place under the roof of the Democratic Society Congress with all their differences and richness. We invite everybody to take the effort to transform our joint struggle into a basis and we invite our brothers and sisters of the Turkish people for solidarity with the power of the congress". (EÜ/VK)
