International reactions are coming as to the attack launched yesterday (June 28) at the Atatürk Airport claiming lives of 36 people.
While many countries condemn the attack, a statement has come from the Brussels Airport, which was exposed to suicide attack on March 22, 2016. In that attack two suicide attackers and 31 people had lost their lives, 250 others wounded.
Following the attack last night, the statement issued on Brussels Airport Twitter account read “Our thoughts are with the victims of the attacks at @istanbulairport. We wish them, their relatives & all airport staff strength & courage”.
NATO
Following expressions have been used in the statement bearing signature of NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg:
“I strongly condemn the horrific attacks at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, those injured and the people of Turkey. There can be no justification for terrorism. NATO Allies stand in solidarity with Turkey, united in our determination to fight terrorism in all its forms”.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has condemned the attack by delivering a statement in Brussels where she is present due to the EU Summit:
“I want to convey to Turkish nation that we are together and will support each other in fight against terror”.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon
United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon condemning the attack made a written statement expressing his condolences to victims’ families, government and people of Turkey.
Ban Ki-moon stated that he “hopes that the perpetrators of this crime will be identified and brought to justice”.
Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel
Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel on his Twitter account posted, “Our thoughts are with the victims of the attacks at Istanbul's airport. We condemn these atrocious acts of violence #Istanbul”.
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump
US Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton said, “Today’s attack in Istanbul only strengthens our resolve to defeat the forces of terrorism and radical jihadism around the world. We must deepen our cooperation with our allies and partners in the Middle East and Europe to take on this threat”.
The other US Presidential candidate, Donald Trump remarked “Our enemies are brutal and ruthless and will do anything to murder those who do not bend to their will. We must take steps now to protect America from terrorists, and do everything in our power to improve our security to keep America safe”.
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his statement he made on Twitter last night said, “Canada strongly condemns tonight’s deadly attack in Turkey. My thoughts are with the victims as we stand with our allies against terrorism”. (ÇT/TK)
