“Homeland Security Act" Draft Talks Postponed

The parliamentary talks of a draft law on homeland security, a controversial regulation expected to be held today, has been postponed. 

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Mersin Province deputy Ertuğrul Kürkçü told bianet that the aforementioned law draft known as “homeland security package” and stirred debates on the grounds that it containted antidemocratic practices, might put the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on a tough spot.

“I sense that the government might have realized that bringing the homeland security draft law to the parliament with this version will put them into a tough spot both regarding the resolution process with Kurds and Turkey’s international image.

“While the government made no statement for the reason of postponing, my opinions are completely speculative.

“There might be some amendments in the draft or it would completely be useless. Because the discussion of each article might take several hours when other parties use their parliamentarian rights.” (EKN/BM)
