Advocates affiliated with Istanbul Bar Association held a night-long “justice watch” in Istanbul Courthouse against Turkey’s homeland security act draft. Started at 3pm local time yesterday, the watch ended this morning.
Prior to the watch, advocated raised their voices in a statement against the act draft which they found as “an attempt to legislate a fascist and oppressing order by abolishing democratic regime and law state”.
Istanbul Bar Association Chairman Ümit Kocasakal also said the following: “This law is not an ordinary law. This law aim a regime change. This law allows law enforcement the power of jurisdiction. It doesn’t protect anybody, on the contrary, it is taking away all basic constitutional rights.”
Following other statements and speeches, advocates started their watch last. On February 5, advocates also had a sit-in in the courthouse against the same law. (AS/BM)
