In a decision announced last night (27 July), the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) said that the judges and prosecutors in the Ergenekon trial will not be transferred.
Decision had been awaited with tension
All the mainstream newspapers reported on the decision on their front pages. In the last week there had been much speculation as to whether the prosecutors investigating the high-profile Ergenekon case and the judges trying the two trials opened would also be transferred and thus be taken off the cases.
The HSYK decided on the transfer of 164 judges and prosecutors.
It also appointed three more prosecutors to Istanbul to deal with investigations into crimes concerning Article 250 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Olcay Seçkin and prosecutors Kasım İlimoğlu and Mustafa Çavuşoğlu will work on investigations of soldiers to be tried in civilian courts. Tuncay Aslan, member of the Istanbul 9th High Criminal Court, has been appointed as judge for such cases. (TK/AG)
