A 5.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Bozkurt district in Denizli according to Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute at the Boğaziçi University.
The earthquake occurred at 2.25 p.m. and had a depth of eight meters. It was also felt in near provinces, including İzmir.
A previous earthquake of 4.2 magnitude was recorded in Çardak, Denizli at 2.19 p.m.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced the Bozkurt earthquake was 6.0 magnitude.
A 4.8 magnitude earthquake happened in the morning in the Aegean Sea near the Kuışadası Gulf. The state-run AA reported that the earthquake had a depth of 18.47 kilometers.
Five people hospitalized
Berna Öztürk, the Provincial Health Director of Denizli, has announced that six people have been hospitalized after the earthquake. "Four out of five peple are hospitalized because they were scared and panicked. And one person jumped from the window, suffering slight injury," she explained.
Governor of Denizli Hasan Karahan stated that damage assessment is underway, adding the earthquake was felt strongly in the districts of Bozkurt and Baklan. The district governoship building has been evacuated at it was damaged, the governor informed.
Sixty homes have been damaged in Tatluca Neighborhood, Mukhtar Hüdai Karaşahin announced.
AFAD Chairperson Mehmet Güllüoğlusaid that the earthquake occurred on a fault line that has not produced earthquakes since 1900s. He added that some buildings have been damaged and more than 10 aftershocks have occurred within the magnitudes of 2.0 and 4.0 since the earthquake.
Bozkurt Mayor Birsen Çelik has said that the wall of his office was collapsed in the earthquake.
