Özgür Gündem daily’s columnist Mehmet Ali Çelebi, one of the Editors-in-Chief Hüseyin Aykol and the Managing Editor İnan Kızılkaya have been sued under the charge of “terrorist organisation propaganda.”
Aykol and Kızılkaya have been sued for five articles and a report published in Özgür Gündem daily’s April 25, 2016, issue.
Çelebi has been sued over his essay on the conflicts in Syria. On May 22, Çelebi said in his testimony, “There is no organisation propaganda in this essay. It’s a picture of the conflicts in Syria, an analysis. The essay analyzes the conflict between the Baath Dictatorship and the People’s Protection Units (YPG). The Baath Dictatorship is trying to create a new map in its own way. So I just analyzed whether it will happen”.
İstanbul 13th Criminal Court has accepted the indictment which has been prepared by attorney Gökhan Yolasığmaz. The first hearing is on November 11. (EA/UA)
