301 Case against Lawyers on Hold
Five human rights representatives are being tried for a report they wrote on the shooting of a child by security forces. As three of the activists are lawyers, the case has been postponed, awaiting permission of Ministry of Justice to proceed.

Journalist to be Retried Under Article 301
Journalist Karaca, who had received a prison sentence converted to a fine in his trial under Article 301, is being retried because there was a procedural error in the court proceedings. The first sitting is scheduled for June 20.

Milliyet Cleared of Terrorist Propaganda
Mainstream newspaper Milliyet had been accused of reporting pro-Kurdish propaganda on its website. Newspaper chief and owner were acquitted on 23 May because court acknowledged public interest in the news.

Appeal of Murdered Journalists Widow
Rakel Dink, widow of the murdered ethnic Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, has appealed to Prime Minister Erdogan to let the Prime Ministerial Review Committee investigate the case further. Her letter has not been answered.

Police Pressure After Critical Article
Editor of the local Emirdağ newspaper, Koyuncu has been arrested following an article in which he criticized the local police. Several officers complained against him and Koyuncu will face trial on May 24. He quoted claims of abuse by the police.

Publisher Sırrı Öztürk and writer Tiftikçi are on trial for a critical study on the Turkish army. Public Prosecutor Turhan faces charges for saying, I do not trust the judiciary. Alınak of the DTP party has been sentenced to ten months imprisonment.

Publisher and writer Ragıp Zarakolus trials with regard to two books undertaking the Armenian issue continue. Hes acquitted on one case but the translator of the book will face charges. The other case had been postponed to June 26.

Weekly newsmagazine Nokta is closed with an unexpected decision by its owner following two consecutive articles critical of the Turkish army. Editor-in-chief Görmüş noted that amounting pressure from the General Staff led to this end.

Roj TV Supporters Face Imprisonment
