Mir Hossein Mussavi and Mehdi Karroubi, ("officially" defeated candidates of the 2009 presidential election and opponents of the hard-line religious leadership) have announced that they are going to attend the weekly political-religious "Friday Praying Ceremony" in Teheran tomorrow, Friday July 17th 2009,. Their goal is to turn regime's main weekly show to an anti-regime protest meeting. They are going to pray to God to save them from God's own regime!
Contemporary Iranian society is full of contradictions. The oppressed people of Iran seem to have no other way out of the religious oppression by the Islamic regime than praying to God!
The question is not what Musavi, Karrubi, or their ideological mentor Khatami are going to do or say tomorrow at the religious hard-liners' main political forum. The question is what the real opposition, the religiously oppressed people of Teheran are going to do or say and how the religious hawks are going to react.
To judge from the hidden tension in the society and it's expectation of the so called "National-religious" reformist Islamic leaders not to betray their election promises, the Friday Pray of July 17th 2009 is going to be another turning point in the crystallization of the positions of the reformist front against the military-clergy political sect. under current socio-economical conditions and the New World Order, i.e., the new phase of globalization process in the world, such a crystallization is of invaluable importance in for the movement of the Iranian oppressed masses; the youth, women, the unemployed, minorities, ethnic groups and workers who are the real vanguards of the democracy movement in Iran. It is within these groups of the Iranian society that the modern labor movement will be organized.
Tomorrow, Musavi and Karrubi may find it inconvenient to stand up against the regime and take side for the victims of recent uprisings in Iran and their ideals. That would certainly be a disappointment for everyone. But when every thing comes around it is not the leaders who are supposed to carry on a social movement. It is the society as a whole. The Iranian society is a divided society; an outdated ruling armed minority in conflict with everyone and everything! And an up-to-date majority demanding no more than free elections and end to religious oppression.
Tomorrow when people cry out "Allah-u-akbar" (God is Great), that would be the cry of the oppressed against God's regime!(BD/EÜ)
