“Being a Human in Prison” panel discussion held by the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) Human Rights Branch has emphasized that prisons are on top of the list of places where human rights violations are most frequently encountered.

Human rights activist, Zafer Kıraç, has staged a peaceful protest for the imprisoned children to be able to send letters free of charge, Undersecretary Kenan İpek promised a solution meeting for the next week.

According to the statements of the Ministry, the number of convicts and detainees in prisons increased four times since 2000, so the total population approximately tripled. There are around 7.000 “excess capacity” convicts and detainees; Kıraç told that there are 15.000 “excess capacity” indeed.
