Representatives of two teachers unions, on 'Occupation Watch' in front of the Supreme Court were raided by police and many of them detained today in Ankara when the Court was to hear the case for repeal of the new "Occupational Law for Teachers."

Teachers went on a one-day strike in the whole of Türkiye in a common action called by 14 teachers' unions against new occupational law for teachers adopted this year in February.

Teachers Tanrıverdi and Polat have been staging protests for more than one year, during which they were detained and released more than 30 times.

Teachers in Van took the street to protest the handling of the aftermath of the two major earthquakes that hit the region in October and November 2011. They drew attention to the still very bad situation of earthquake victims and to the persistent problem of housing.
