The couple went missing in 2020, and the body of one of them was found 70 days later. One defendant has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The trial over the disappearance of Hurmüz and Şimoni Diril in Şırnak’s Kovankaya village on January 11, 2020 began at the Şırnak 1st High Criminal Court.

HDP’s Syriac MP Çelik has prepared a report on Diril couple, who got missing in Şırnak. “Turkey has a criminal record in terms of missing persons, disappearances and unidentified murders. The recent incidents remind us of the 90s,” he says.

Of missing Chaldean couple, Şimoni Diril has been found dead 69 days later. George Diril, her nephew, says, “The spot where her body was found is 10 minutes from the village. Maybe, it would not end like this if they had been sincerely searched.”
