Workers’ right to severance pay is once again opened to debate by the government, this time, under the name of Supplementary Pension System. Despite its positive-sounding name, the proposed system is heavily criticized by workers and unions.

The union of service workers Genel-İş demonstrated against the "severance pay fund" in Istanbul on 23 August. The protestors criticized that the fund deprives the workers of their last social right and that they were going to lose their job security.
