Imprisoned Writer Berktaş Wins at ECHR

"Hücreler" - 'Prison Cells' is the title of the book that brought writer Berktaş to jail. Berktaş now won her case at the ECHR and Turkey was sentenced to a fine of € 15,000 in compensation. The same amount has to be paid to publisher Çamyar.

Writer Nevin Berktaş received a ten-month prison sentence because of her book on her time in prison. Due to a mistake, she had previously been imprisoned for more than 5 years too long. Her request to take this time into account accordingly was dismissed. She filed an appeal.
