Charges of "propaganda for the PKK" lead to the conviction of writer Güler and publisher Zarakolu based on the book "The KCK file/Global state and Kurds without a state". Güler received a prison sentence and Zarakolu a monetary fine despite the prosecutor's plea for their acquittal.

By majority vote, RTÜK imposed a heavy monetary fine to the news channel CNN Türk on the grounds of a statement made by Kurdish politician Özçelik in the program "What's going on". He had described the militant PKK as a "political movement".

A Silivri court handed down a monetary fine of TL 4,500 to defendants Taştan and Topal for "registering personal data". They stood trial for alleged Protestant missionary activities. The defendants were acquitted of charges of inciting hatred and insult of 'Turkishness'.

The Freedom for Journalists Platform announced that 50 press employees are currently imprisoned and that 1,200 trials against journalists are pending. Delegations of the platform are going to monitor the cases against sociologist Beşikçi and journalist Koçali.

An Istanbul court handed down a prison sentence of one year and three months to journalist Irfan Aktan for an article published in the Express periodical. Editorial manager Erol received a monetary fine of TL 16,000.

Artist Dickinson Sentenced for "Insult of the Prime Minister"
"Turkey would be nicer without the threat of imprisonment". This was said by British collage artist Dickinson, who depicted President Erdoğan as the dog of former US President Bush. Dickinson was sentenced to 425 days imprisonment; his sentence was converted into a monetary fine and lifted at last.

Journalist Boğatekin received a 5 years, one month and seven days prison sentence for claiming prosecutor Ovacıklı's being close to religious leader Fethullah Gülen. He was furthermore deprived of his civil rights. Journalist Badur was handed down a TL 3,000 monetary fine.
