The trial of Haluk Kalafat, former co-editor-in-chief and Elif Akgül, former editor of bianet, who are facing charges of "publicly insulting the Turkish nation" was held yesterday at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

The Beyoğlu Attorney General's Office did not see sufficient reasons for a lawsuit of police officer Zenit against bianet. Bianet had criticized Zenit because of the police officer's phone talks with murder suspect Tuncel prior to the murder of Hrant Dink. However, bianet is facing a 25,000 Turkish Lira compensation claim.

The first hearing of Bianet’s trial for publishing a report about Dink’s Murder was held today. The court granted bianet extra time to present the evidence for their defense and their statement regarding the expert report.
