HDP Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran has criticized the 30-year prison sentence given to former Nusaybin Mayor and TJA Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan: “The hostile attitude to Kurdish women’s struggle will lose.”

Free Women’s Movement (TJA) Spokesperson Gökkan has been given a 30-year prison sentence on charge of “organization membership” twice. Gökkan and her lawyers did not make defense, citing the attitude of the court as the reason.

At the hearing of jailed former Nusaybin Mayor Ayşe Gökkan in Diyarbakır, the presiding judge ordered the Diyarbakır Bar Chair and lawyers out of the courtroom by police force. Gökkan’s requests for additional time and recusal have been rejected.

The court remanded Ayşe Gökkan in custody based on statements by anonymous witnesses.

After an arrest warrant was issued against Free Women’s Movement (TJA) Term Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan, she has been detained in Diyarbakır.
