The ECtHR has announced its judgement on Parmak and Bakır, who were convicted for allegedly being members of an organization which was regarded as a terrorist organization because it “used moral coercion” despite not resorting to physical violence.

Akkaya from the Demanding Justice for Children Group announced that 18-year old H.Y., imprisoned under the Anti-Terror Law, was finally released from prison after 3 suicide attempt within 4 years. 56 children are still in prison, 21 in south-eastern Turkey and 35 in Istanbul.

35 Children still Detained in Istanbul, Courts Slow Down Procedures
Despite amendments of the Anti-Terror Law, 35 children detained in Istanbul prisons have not been released yet. Lawyer Zincir criticized: "The courts do not take action, they decide for lack of jurisdiction and leave the review of the detentions to children courts".

Rehabilitation for Child Victims of Anti-Terror Law
A group of volunteers in Batman initiated a rehabilitation program for children who were recently released from prison after the amendments of the Anti-Terror Law. Coordinator Ipekyuz said that the children and their families need at least 2 years of therapy.

Detention of Children Leads to Unrest in the Southeast
Four children between 6 and 12 years old said to have thrown stones at a police vehicle were allegedly beaten and taken into custody. When people protested against the arrests, the police intervened with water cannons and tear gas.

Amendments of Anti-Terror Law Positive but not Sufficient
AI appreciated the amendments of the Anti-Terror Law but also called the government to "investigate allegations of maltreatment of children in detention". Lawyer Aktar welcomed the amendments and urged to immediately release the imprisoned children.

Parliament Separated "Terror" Prosecution of Children and Adults
The amendments related to juveniles prosecuted under the Anti-Terror law were adopted by the Turkish Parliament. Children convicted for "terror" crimes will be released pending trial. They will be prosecuted at juvenile courts instead of high criminal courts.

Children no Longer Tried like Members of Terror Organizations
The Turkish Parliament passed clauses 1 to 7 of the first part of the amendments of the Anti-Terror Law. Children shall no longer be tried as if they were members of a terrorist organization. UNICEF appreciated the adoption of the amendments.

Controversial News Principles for Terror Coverage
A meeting of the Ministry of the Interior, the Radio and TV Supreme Council and TV officials yielded new principles for news about armed conflicts. It was announced to refrain from broadcasts that justify or encourage terror. The Contemporary Journalists Association criticized the principles.

Important changes have been made in the new version of the Anti-Terror Law. Children are tried at juvenile courts and stones do no longer account as weapons. Some anticipated increases of crimes and punishments will be lifted.

The G9 Platform demanded to have press freedom protected under constitutional law. The association of press organizations furthermore requested the amendment of 27 articles of the Turkish Criminal Law and the release of all journalists in detention.
