Minister of National Defense Nurettin Canikli responded today (April 10) to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, who said that Russia hopes “Turkey will return the control of Afrin to the government of Syria”. Canikli said that Afrin will be handed over to the “elected government”.
As reported by NTV, answering to journalists’ questions ahead of the group meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Canikli said, “Terrorism threat continues in Afrin. Our precautions will continue until all risks are eliminated. We will continue to stay until we are done. We will return it to the elected government after all terrorism threat is eliminated”. (ŞA/TK)
