YouTube officials agreed to remove certain footage showing Deniz Baykal, former Chairman of the main opposition party CHP, in a compromising situation from the video sharing site. The Telecommunication Communication Presidency (TİB) contacted the YouTube officials with an according request after the Ankara 11th Magistrate Criminal Court had ruled for an access ban.
The access ban was decided upon the demand of the Ankara Public Chief Prosecution. The YouTube officials considered the decision and removed the videos on subject.
Baykal's lawyers requested the removal of the videos supposedly concerning their client last week. The videos showed Bakal in a distinct private situation with CHP deputy Nesrin Baytok.
Acces to YouTube was banned for 2.5 years due to videos allegedly tainting the memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Turkish republic. The access ban had just been lifted in the beginning of this month. (EÖ/VK)
