Women Writers Meet in Edirne
The second stop of the PEN Women Writers’ Committee’s eleven-city tour through Anatolia is in Edirne. Writers will discuss the relations between women, literature and life with their readers.
From
28 February to 1 March, women writers will meet in Edirne as part of an
eleven-city tour organised by the PEN Women Writer’s Committee.
The aim is for the writers to come together with amateur writers, lovers of literature and people wanting to write.
Members of the committee and the guest writers will listen to writing efforts of women from Edirne, will share their experiences and also draw attention to women’s issues in Turkey.
The writers are Aslı Tohumcu, Gönül Kıvılcım, Karin Karakaşlı, Müge İplikçi, Nalan Babarasoğlu, Nazan Haydari, Özlem N. Yılmaz and Sezer Ateş Ayvaz.
Topics that will be discussed in four panels in the two days are:
- How do your experiences affect your writing practice?
- Violence in literature
- Looking at our story and those of others
- Writing independent of time or place
- To what degree are our words and texts heard?
- Looking at a text critically
- Imagining writing without censorship
Participants will be able to share of their own work.
The project is supported by the Dutch Consulate. The first event of the tour took place in Bursa, western Turkey, on 29-30 November 2008. (EZÖ/TK/AG)
