Last Saturday and Sunday, a convoy of 64 vehicles carrying Patriot missiles and launching pads drove to the Batman airport. About 150 vehicles rented by the U.S., including dozers, road graders, trucks equipped with shock absorbers are constantly active at the airport. These vehicles are reportedly preparing infrastructure for the U.S. troops to be based in Batman.
The U.S. troops that have settled in prefabricated facilities are buying goods from the tradesmen in Batman.
Commander Dr. Thomas M. Slyter visited the Batman private Sifa Hospital and examined the operating and emergency rooms and the dormitory of the hospital.
Head of the Batman hospital Veysi Kubba said they would be able to "meet the U.S. needs if needed."
A new telephone network
The Batman airport personnel are not allowed to enter the airport with their cellular phones. A new 500-capacity telephone station and a number of telephone posts are already put up at the region in northern Iraq, where the Batman governorship will operate. (NK/BB/EA/NM)
