Questions to Ministers Gül and Soylu
Referring to the figures shared by the SPoD LGBTI+ Association's Advisory Hotline, main opposition CHP MP Kadıgil has raised concerns that the hate attacks targeting LGBTI+s in Turkey increased by around 50 percent in March and April and by 110 percent in May.
In this context, she has addressed a series of questions to Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu about three recent attacks against the LGBTI+ in Maçka Park in Beşiktaş, 4. Levent and Beylikdüzü district in İstanbul:
"Has any legal action been taken about the related attacks and complaints?
"Have any probes or investigations been launched against the officers at the Esenyurt District Police Department who allegedly did not take the depositions of the victims properly?
"Are you working on any trainings to prevent the security personnel from treating the LGBTI+ citizens, who have the same rights and obligations before the Constitution, in a discriminatory manner?
"How many attacks have been carried out against the LGBTI+ over the past year? How many attacks have been carried out since May 25?"
'How many investigations have been launched?'
Kadıgil has also addressed a Parliamentary question to Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gül and asked how many investigations and legal actions have been taken against institutions and people who have systematically targeted the LGBTI+s with their publications and statements:
"How many investigations have been launched into the systematic hate speech, discriminatory remarks, targeting statements, publications and broadcasts of certain media outlets and persons against the LGBTI+?
"How many of these investigations turned into lawsuits? What answers have been given at the end of the judicial processes?
"Is the number of people who have been attacked due to their sexual orientation during your term in office as the Minister known? If not, are there any plans to work on it so that data can be produced about it?" (EMK/SD)
