Environmental Impact Report (ÇED) meeting organized for the carbonaceous thermal power plant planned to be constructed between the villages of Pınarça and Safaalanı in Çerkezköy, Tekirdağ have met with protests of the local community and NGOs.
Coming to the meeting planned to be held at Çerkezköy Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday (February 1), Environment and Urbanization Provincial Directorate officials left the hall before they could start the meeting.
The struggle that began in 2016
Execution of the project was suspended by the Council of State as a result of the legal struggle put up by local community and Çerkezköy and Kapaklı municipalities since 2016.
There are 250 thousand oak trees
However, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization changed the project zone and has launched a new ÇED process for the forestry area hosting at least 250 thousand oak trees.
Villagers gather mushrooms, pasture their animals, have picnic in the forest located 15 minutes from Pınarça village.
They are worried that their living space will be seized from them and all the damages to be caused by the power plan will flow towards the village.
