İstanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance fined actor Barış Atay 7.080 Turkish Liras for insulting Recep Tayyip Erdoğan via media.
Put on trial for insulting former PM Recep Tayyip erdoğan, his son Necmeddin Bilal erdoğan and a Saudi Arabian businessman, Yasin al-Qadi, over an article published in daily BirGün, Barış Atay was imposed fine. Atay was acquitted of Bilal Erdoğan and Yasin al-Qadi. The court gave a verdict that there was no need for suspension.
On March 9, 2014 Barış Atay wrote an article titled ‘Head of the government!’ in BirGün: “…Bilal Erdoğan meets Yasin al-Qadi, one of the sponsors of terrorists, in a hotel lobby in order to plot for corruption and bribery.”
Defendant was sentenced to imprisonment between a year and 2 months and 2 years and 4 months for insulting Erdoğan. (EA/BD)
